How to Declutter Your Entrance

organizing and declutter tips

When people redecorate and reorganize their homes, hallways almost always end up last on the to-do list or completely neglected. According to Feng Shui, this is one of the biggest mistakes if one wants to be happy and at peace upon arriving home. Hallways, in that respect, provide that first touch of homeliness and warmth as well as a nice first impression for the guests, which is exactly why they should be kept mess-free and personalized, like every other room.

Clear It All Out

Before you start rearranging stuff in your entrance, make sure to clear everything out. Depending on the size of your entry room, you can use different ideas on organization and décor. But, most importantly, you have to say goodbye to the clutter. When you remove all your things, give it a good clean. If you’re planning to add a fresh coat of paint or wallpaper, this is the time to do so. Accent walls and pops of color can do wonders in appearance of your hall.

Hang a Mirror

A mirror is the main accessory in your entry room. This is where mirrors are usually larger so that you can check out your whole figure before going out. In that respect, it’s a very important decorative addition as well. To add a personal touch, you can play with frames. In general, mirrors make the space larger visually, but if you have a small entrance, stay away from bulky frames. On the other hand, if you’re lucky to have a more spacious entrance, more embellished frame can look quite nice.

Proper Storage Solutions

In order to keep everything at its respective place, you need to tend to your storage solutions. First of all, you don’t want your footwear scattered around the entrance. It doesn’t look good and it can be dangerous. Therefore, no matter how small your entrance is, you need to install shoe cabinets. You don’t have to buy these specifically, because there are many
DIY options available as well. Moreover, add a small shelf if you’re dealing with a small space, where you’ll keep your smaller bits and pieces such as keys, umbrellas and other knick-knacks. If your hallway is a bit larger, you can add a nice table that will serve as a great decorative piece and storage solution for various hallway essentials.

Make It Beautiful

There’s nothing like a pretty plant and/or flower to freshen up your entrance. Again, if the size of your hallway allows you, use decorative and beautiful designer pots that will undoubtedly add a personal touch to the whole look. On the other hand, you can always use smaller plants and cactuses to make even the smallest of hallways lively and welcoming.

Most people keep their outerwear hanged in the hallway so that they can immediately get dressed and leave home. Still, don’t overstuff your hangers. Keep only those jackets and coats that you’re currently wearing and store the rest away. In a larger hallway, you can definitely make a great use out of a coat rack, but if you want to save space, coat hooks are a great solution.
Keep in mind that your entrance is not the place where you should keep a lot of decorative bits and pieces. Actually, you don’t need to keep anything in there, apart from the already mentioned essentials, such as keys, umbrellas, flower pots, clothes, footwear and possibly a phone and a notepad. By getting rid of all the stuff that you don’t use, your entrance will be clutter-free and a lot more pleasant while its minimalist design will be its true décor.
